Soror Brenda Moore has been a member of the Eta Mu Zeta Chapter since the late 1970's. Soror Moore has served at many levels of leadership within our organization. We are blessed to have her as a member of the Eta Mu Zeta Chapter.

Let's get to know Soror Moore!

Please tell us your name

Brenda Moore

When and where did you become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated?

I became a member of the Eta Mu Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated on March 24, 1979 in Tacoma, Washington

Why did you choose Zeta?

I chose Zeta because I had met some of the ladies. They were very friendly and possessed great intellect. I should also mention that royal blue is my favorite color. The main reason was the dedication to community and the global sisterhood was genuine.

Where did you go to school? What is your major?

I am a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Who was the International Grand Basileus when you were initiated?

Edith V. Francis

What is your profession? Are you still actively working? If not are you retired?

Business administration was my profession. I am currently retired. After thirty-five plus years, I retired from the Washington state Auditors’ Office based in Olympia, Washington on September 30, 2012.

What is a fond Zeta Memory?

A fond Zeta memory can be dated back to my early days as a Zeta. I remember that a Soror of a certain age told me that I should answer the telephone with a different tone. I forget just how she phrased it, but I think it had something to do with the fact that I don’t have this sweet soft voice which I do not alter much even when I answer the phone. I think about that sometimes and smile. At that time, I probably did not smile.

What are some of your Hobbies and Interest?

I enjoy hanging with friends—when we were allowed to hang out. Hanging can be going out to lunch or dinner or for a health walk in the mall. I like taking day trips on tours, and I admit I like to play the slots on occasion. I like reading a good mystery or any good book will do. I use to sew a lot but have not done much of that recently. I also knit and crochet sometimes.

What Positions have you held in Zeta on any level?

Positions held Chapter: Secretary, 1st, 2nd,3rd Vice President, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Amicae Liaison. I am not sure if that covers all positions held. On state level, I am currently serving as Interim Executive Board Chair and Washington Amicae Coordinator. Regional positions held: Financial Secretary.

Please share a quote, passage, or bible verse that resonates with you

“If you want to go quickly, go alone! If you want to go far, go together!” – African Proverb.

Also…..

Bible verse: “Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” James 1:2-3

What Zeta Principle do you most relate to and why?

Sisterhood. Being far from my birth home and family, it is a blessing to know that I have many “someones” that I can call on if I needed something or that I can do the same for someone else if called upon.
