Please tell us your name

Ronnda-Leigh Morris

When and where did you become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated?

April 11, 2015 through the Beta Theta Zeta Chapter of Norfolk, VA

Why did you choose Zeta?

I want to say It was inevitable. I grew up at a college campus, THE Norfolk State University (#BEHOLD) because my grandmother worked there. As the cheerleader advisor for many years, many of her Cheerleaders were Zetas. She also had many students in work study that were Zetas. Many years later, through a chance encounter again at NSU during Homecoming, I was re-introduced to Zeta, and It was like confirmation that this is something I need to do, like it was a sign that it was coming full circle. I ended up becoming a member of the Graduate chapter that Sponsors NSU.

Where did you go to school? What is your major?

I am a graduate of Saint Leo University where I obtained both my Master's and Bachelor's degree. I have a Master of Science of Criminal Justice with a Forensic Psychology Specialization and a BA of Psychology.

Who was the International Grand Basileus when you were initiated?

Dr. Mary Breaux Wright

What is your profession? Are you still actively working? If not are you retired?

I am retired Military. I served in both the United States Marines (8 years) and the United States Army (4 years), before being medically retired. I had three MOS's between the two Branches, serving as an Aviation Maintenance Administrative Clerk, Personnel and Administration/Human Resources Clerk, and a Petroleum Supply Specialist. I am currently pursuing my Law Degree with the goal of becoming an Attorney. I will specialize in Contracts and planning.

What is a fond Zeta Memory?

I have two actually, the first one, is one that happened before I became a Zeta. As mentioned previously I had a chance encounter at NSU homecoming. I was approached by this lady, who was dressed in a royal blue windbreaker tracksuit, with white sneakers. Her hair was pinned up, and she had Royal Blue Glitter in her hair. She was handing out flyers to an MLK, Jr event, that I couldn't attend because I was active duty stationed in California (I was home on leave). After telling the lady who invited me I couldn't attend, she took me over to where the Zetas where tailgating. There were so many women, in different shapes, sizes, styles, and color. I was greeted with open arms, and those ladies carried on with me as if we had known each other forever. I never forgot about that, and it made me want to research and ask questions about Zeta. About 5 years later, I'm in a store and I'm telling the owner about the lady I met that day years before. While I'm telling the story, another customer walks in, and as I'm telling the owner the ladies name, he informs me that the customer who had walked in, was the lady I was talking about. I repeated the Story, and let the lady know how that day impacted me so much, that I remembered her name. The rest, as they say is history. The second, is when a Soror told me that she remembered when I was a little girl, and that she and was glad to say that I was her Soror.

What are some of your Hobbies and Interest?

Reading, I love reading. Singing, Dancing. Getting in my car, going on spontaneous road trips. I'm interested in learning. Learning knew things about the world, people, places, and things. Everyday is a new opportunity to learn something new.

What Positions have you held in Zeta on any level?

I am currently the Financial Secretary, and Social Action Coordinator for the State of Washington, as well as the 1st Vice President, and Z-HOPE/Social Action Coordinator for the Eta Mu Zeta Chapter. With Eta Mu Zeta, I have also served as the Executive Board Member at Large, and I have previously served as the Co-Chair of the Z-HOPE/Social Action committees in my previous chapter.

Please share a quote, passage, or bible verse that resonates with you

Life: "This above all, to thine own self be true" - William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Spiritual: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" - Jeremiah 29:11

Zeta: "A Good Zeta is a well informed Zeta" - Dr. Mary B. Wright 24th International President of Zeta Phi Beta

What Zeta Principle do you most relate to and why?

I will have to say both Service and Sisterhood. Growing up, i watched my grandmother be of service to others. I grew up with college students in my home, as she would take in students who couldn't afford the dorms, and let them stay with us until they graduated. These students became a part of our family, and it was evident when she passed in 2011 that her being of service to them, changed their lives. I wanted to make an impact on others, by utilizing my blessings to be of service. She was a member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Order of Tents, of which I became a member of also. By being her shadow, and attending meetings and conventions with her, I was introduced to Sisterhood, and I saw how having a close group of women was beneficial in her life. It was bigger then just being members of the organization. These women poured into each other, and came together during difficult times.
