Updated: Dec 7, 2020

Soror Jacquie Banks has been a member of our Chapter since 2007. Soror Banks, along with her Husband Rev. Dr. Arthur C. Banks have been avid supporters of Zeta. As the Former First Lady of Eastside Baptist Church in Tacoma, Soror Banks sponsored many events for our chapter, such as ZPAP (Zeta Prematurity Awareness Program), and several of our State Leadership Conferences. Soror Banks has recently moved to Texas, after she retired from of her profession of Teaching. We are proud of Soror Banks, and we know she will continue to be a pillar of the community wherever she is. We are blessed to have her as a member of the Eta Mu Zeta Chapter.

Let's get to know Soror Banks!

Please tell us your name

Soror Jacqueline Faye Aubrey Banks

When and where did you become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated?

I became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Eta Mu Zeta chapter in 2007 at the home of Soror Alma Birchette in Lakewood, WA.

Why did you choose Zeta?

I chose to become a member of Zeta Phi Beta after careful consideration of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta. Two of my sisters belonged to these two Greek organizations and felt passionately that I should pledge with their sorority. However, after becoming friends with an older woman who is an Amicae, I learned so much about Zeta and the work that they were doing in my own community. I attended a number of community events and was inspired to do more. Subsequently, I became a member of Zeta Phi Beta. I don’t’ think my Delta sister ever forgave me.

Where did you go to school? What is your major?

I returned to college as an adult with a family and while working full-time. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale at Mc Chord Air Force Base. My master’s degree in Education was completed at City University of Seattle.

Who was the International Grand Basileus when you were initiated?

Barbara C. Moore

What is your profession? Are you still actively working?

If not are you retired? After completing my degree, I worked as an educator for over 34 years. I worked as a high school teacher, college instructor, and worked as a college dean. Last year, I retired and currently I am not working. My husband recently retired and we have now relocated to Bastrop, Texas. We recently purchased a number of cattle.

What is a fond Zeta Memory?

A few of my fondest memories of being involved with my Zeta sorority includes: prematurity awareness Sundays at my Eastside Baptist Church, Christmas dinners at the YWCA, and the youth of my church hosting a prematurity awareness baby shower.

What are some of your Hobbies and Interest?

My hobbies include public speaking, reading, and walking with my husband.

What Positions have you held in Zeta on any level?

I have not officially held any offices in Zeta. However, I did fill in as the Secretary when the position was vacant. I served until the position was filled.

Please share a quote, passage, or bible verse that resonates with you

I love Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding, but in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.”

What Zeta Principle do you most relate to and why?

The Zeta principle that I believe I relate most closely with is Service. My professional life as an educator for 34+ years and my life as a pastor’s wife for 35+ years has been about service to others. Whether helping someone achieve a better life for themselves and their family, helping someone see how submitting their life to Christ could change their life for the better, working at my church to feed the hungry, visiting with those who were sick, or seeking shelter for the homeless - my life has been about service to others
